A few things specific to Madeira that affect your pipes and fixtures:
Madeira is served by two systems: Indian Hill Water Works on the east side and Greater Cincinnati Water Works on the west side. Indian Hill softens groundwater; its 2025 report lists about 140 ppm (8.2 grains per gallon).
The city has been replacing water mains on the Indian Hill system street by street. A new main is a good time to check the condition of your own service line and shutoff.
Homes range from early-1900s houses near downtown to postwar homes in South Kenwood. We repair and replace older galvanized and cast-iron piping.
A Madeira water heater that's stopped heating doesn't always need replacing. On gas units we check the pilot, thermocouple, and gas control valve; on electric units, the heating elements and thermostats. Many of those parts can be swapped in one trip. When the tank itself is leaking, though, there's no repair for that, and we'll quote a replacement.
We also serve neighboring Kenwood, Montgomery, Blue Ash, and Indian Hill.

Often, yes, if the problem is a part like a thermocouple, gas control valve, heating element, or thermostat. A leaking tank can't be repaired, so in that case we quote a replacement.
It depends on your address. The east side is on Indian Hill Water Works and the west side is on Greater Cincinnati Water Works. Your water bill shows which one.
Both systems are in the moderately hard range — Indian Hill lists about 8.2 grains per gallon, and GCWW lists 126–140 mg/L. We test on site before recommending a softener.
During our posted hours — Mon–Fri 8am–7pm and Sat 9am–1pm — sewage backups, burst pipes, and leaking tanks in Madeira get priority scheduling, and same-day replacements are often available. While you wait: if a pipe is leaking, shut off your main water valve (usually where the water line enters the house, often in the basement near the meter) by turning it clockwise. If the tank is leaking, close the cold-water valve on top of it and turn off its gas supply or breaker.
